Since 2020 we’ve seen the rebellion against minimalist, sterile interiors continue to accelerate. From the pages of AD to grandmillennial TikTok – maximalism (and patterned wallpaper!) is everywhere. Even me, dear reader, one who thinks of navy as a pop of color, has fallen victim to its charms. Thanks to a charming bathroom project I’m diving deep into the archives. And here are some favorites:

Playful and classic wallpapers from Lick, which recently launched in the US. Image: Lick
From Lick: B-Corp Certified Playful prints
Fruit 02 is a little fun & funky patterned wallpaper I’m seriously considering for our pantry, while Bubble 01 represents a more classic take. As an added bonus, Lick is a certified B-corp that produces small-batch wallpaper, sources from sustainably managed forest and plants a tree for each roll of wallpaper sold.

From Pepper Home: Classic Wallpaper Designs from a Women-Owned Business
The Penelope from Pepper Home is the gateway drug for statement walls. Shown here in a blue, it comes in numerous colorways. I see her playing nicely with a colored tile in a powder bath, or in a charming nursery.

Floral wallpaper done two ways – one more muted and one with pops of color. Image: Schoolhouse Electric
From SChoolHouse: Vintage-Inspired Wallpaper made with Sustainably sourced materials
Alpine Garden from Portland-based Schoolhouse Electric is available in both single and multicolor versions. They use FSC-Certified substrate for their traditional wallpapers, and the digital papers are Greenguard Gold Certified.

From Burke Decor: Classic Prints with Sustainable Materials
A Fable Wallpaper by Burke Decor would be perfect in a cozy study next to a built-in and a vintage leather chair (of course).
